Windows Phone 7 Drops The “Series”

The Official name of Microsoft’s new mobile operating system was Windows Phone 7 Series but we’ve been calling it just “Windows Phone” and “Windows Phone 7” for brevity sake. Everyone already knows what we’re talking about, it sounds more natural, and the “Series” adds little value. It turns out Microsoft agrees.

In a tweet from their @windowsphone account, Microsoft announced they would be dropping the “Series” at the end of “Windows Phone 7 Series” and it’s now simply “Windows Phone 7”.

Small change. Big improvement. Now they just need to drop the 7 and use that in a separate discussion about version numbers. Since right now there is only one version, what’s the point?
