Microsoft Sells Only 500 Kin Phones

The world’s biggest software company put an entire team behind developing a brand new phone and then put millions and millions of dollars into a national marketing and advertising campaign. Guess how many units they were able to sell? 500. Don’t feel so smart, we know you read it in the title.

But really? 500 units? If what BusinessInsider heard was true, than that’s absolutely pitiful for Microsoft and equally depressing for those 500 people. Although the company wouldn’t confirm or deny the claim, it’s pretty obvious that sales figures are abysmal either way.

I realize that big “500” usually symbolizes Fortune 500… but in this case it represents the fortune Microsoft lost from selling only 500 Kin phones. Ouch.
