Microsoft Sues Motorola

Microsoft is suing Motorola for patent infringement on nine different patents.  Basically Microsoft is claiming that Motorola has stolen some ideas including syncing your email, scheduler, address book, and notifying applications for changes in signal strength and battery power.

Microsoft’s Corporate VP and Deputy General Counsel justified the suit by stating,”We have a responsibility to our customers, partners, and shareholders to safeguard the billions of dollars we invest each year in bringing innovative software products and services to market. Motorola needs to stop its infringement of our patented inventions in its Android smartphones.”

If Microsoft is successful it Motorola could have to pay a pretty penny in damages and possibly lose the ability to sell Smartphones in the U.S.  The question is whether or not they will be successful which is highly unlikely.  At most Motorola might have to change a few features, they won’t be banned from selling their phones.
