eBuddy XMS Beta Launched for Windows Phone

eBuddy is a popular all-in-one client for the PC and iPhone/Android handsets, but it looks as though the Windows Phone app may be going in a slightly different direction. The eBuddy XMS app beta was announced last night for select users and though the launch has been buggy, the interface seems to fit in well with metro.

The only downside of this launch that I can see is that instead of providing a good all-in-one messaging solution for WP7, eBuddy seems to be trying to tackle WhatsApp by providing a linked smartphone messenger that functions like real-time texts. This is a disappointment, considering the messaging apps that are available for WP7 that support other protocols are severely lacking. Still, if you’re interested in the features announced for eBuddy XMS, they are as follows:

  • Ability to add contacts by scanning the address book, Facebook contacts directly with the PIN or eBuddy
  • Allows you to copy and delete entire conversations posts
  • Push Notifications of received messages
  • Only allows text chat
  • Displays the contact’s online status
  • Displays information about the delivery status of a message
  • Phone Compatible with Windows 7.5 and higher Mango
  • Languages ‚Äč‚Äčavailable: English, Dutch and Russian
  • Do not allow to send or receive images
  • Do not display emoticons sent from other platforms
The beta is still closed for the moment so you won’t be able to get your hands on it, but it’s nice to see some progress being made in the WP7 messaging space.
