Is Instagram in the Works for Windows Phone?

What would you say if I told you that a view-only client for Instagram has been coded for Windows Phone in less than an hour? Would you believe me? Metrogram is just that, a unique take on browsing images from Instagram directly on your Windows Phone with that lovely metro user interface.

Bil Simser is responsible for development and his recent tweets show just how easy Windows Phone apps are to create, if you’re willing to give it a go:

58 minutes later an a new wp7 Instagram client is born. I think that’s a record for me

Writing the Instagram client for #wp7 has been so freaking easy. 2 hours and I have a fully functional client

The term “fully functional” is debatable here, since you can’t actually use any of the features that make Instagram popular. However, as a pure viewer for photos that have been taken using the service, Metrogram stands as a shining testament to what can be done with MetroUI if given the chance.

Instagram still isn’t available on Android with its much bigger marketshare, but here’s to hoping we’ll see it on Windows Phone soon.

  • That would be huge for WP7. I’ve been waiting for a damn Android version of that for a good year or so now.
