Nokia Branding Soon to be on Bing Maps

It looks like Microsoft’s relationship with Nokia goes a bit deeper than just handsets. Pocket-lint reports that in a recent interview, Stephen Elop has said that Nokia branding will be on Bing Maps within the near future, no matter what device you use to access the maps.

"You’ll starting seeing the word ‘Nokia’ on a map that you get from Microsoft properties over a period of time. Even if you are on a BlackBerry device, who recently said they were going to start using Bing Maps."

Elop further elaborates on the partnership by explaining that Nokia has better maps systems and that the deal will secure a better balance between the two companies:

"In the time ahead, what you will see is, across all the Microsoft properties including Bing maps, more and more work will be done by Nokia. We did that for important reasons as we had the better mapping assets so it made sense. But it also creates some balance in the relationship with Microsoft."

Nokia has already been hard at work helping to solidify Microsoft Bing’s Streetside project, so the fact that Nokia branding will be on all Bing Maps going forth in the future will be interesting, considering other companies like BlackBerry use Bing for its maps. It will be interesting to see if any manufacturers make the switch to Google Maps over this partnership.

  • Interesting… I really haven’t used Bing for much and haven’t had a Nokia phone since the millennium rolled in… so I guess I wouldn’t notice a difference lol.
