ZTE Reveals Cost of Windows Phone License

ZTE has been in the news quite a bit lately. The Tania launched in the UK last night and with it, a few interesting tidbits of information have been gleaned from the whole licensing process. Santiago Sierra, a portfolio manager for the company’s UK division has revealed that the company pays Microsoft around $20 to $30 for Windows Phone licensing.

This amount is certainly higher than expected, as HTC and Samsung are believed to pay around half of that. If ZTE’s pricing reveal is true, it would suggest that Microsoft gives discounts based on handset volume and for that matter, we have to wonder what the company is charging Nokia to use the OS, if anything.

  • I assume that is “per phone,” right? Because at first read through I was like “dang, thats way less than I paid for windows.”
