Is the Titan II Doomed in Competition with the Lumia 900?

Today has been a big day for Windows Phone, specifically on AT&T. A leaked roadmap listed both the Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC Titan II as launching on March 18th. The Titan II was listed at the standard $199.99 we’ve come to expect from high end smartphones, but the Lumia 900 really surprised us by being listed at only $99.99. This creates an interesting competition between these two devices.

The Lumia 900 has almost everything going for it. For the average consumer it wins in price, size, color choices, and apps. The Titan II has one thing going for it, and that’s the massive 16MP camera on its back. But will a camera be enough to compete with the lower priced Lumia 900?

Imagine yourself walking into an AT&T store on March 18th ready to purchase a shiny new Windows Phone. Sitting on the display in front of you is the Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC Titan II, here’s the important specs to compare:

Lumia 900 Titan II
Screen Size 4.3″ 4.7″
Camera 8MP 16MP
Processor 1.4GHz 1.5GHz
LTE Yes Yes
Price $99 $199

Pretty tough choice isn’t it? Or is it? If it was me walking into that store I would have a hard time convincing myself that the Titan II is worth the extra $100. This is what concerns me about the Titan II. The Titan was a huge success for Windows Phone, but what was the top competition when it was launched? The Lumia 900 is the most highly anticipated Windows Phone that the platform has seen. Which would you choose? How successful will the Titan II be against the tough competition of the Lumia 900?
