Canalys: 2.5 Million Windows Phones Shipped in Q4 ’11, 50% Made by Nokia

As the first month of 2012 comes to an end we’re getting more results for Windows Phone statistics in Q4 of last year. Canalys reports that in the last quarter of 2011 2.5 million Windows Phone devices were shipped. A whopping 48% (1.2 million) of those devices were made by Nokia. The total number of WP devices may not be impressive, but Nokia accounting for almost half of the Q4 sales is great. And remember, that’s without any devices in the U.S.

The report also mentions that 6.8 million Windows Phone devices shipped in 2011. This puts the total up to around 10 million devices shipped since Windows Phone was born. Not super impressive, but also not surprising for a new OS. The numbers seem to support that Nokia is going to have a positive impact on these numbers in 2012. We hope.
