Microsoft Sheds Start Button From Windows 8

Over the weekend, shots from a consumer preview version of Windows 8 were leaked onto the Internet. These shots contain an interesting feature in that the Start orb as we know it is officially gone.

The Verge reports that a source close the Windows 8 development team has confirmed that the functionality of the start menu has changed somewhat, but it’s still there. For users of Windows 7, the hover to the right of the taskbar to hide all windows is a nifty one. Now in Windows 8, users will hover to the left to bring up that menu.

It’s an interesting design feature that we’re eager to test out, but Microsoft will probably receive some backlash from people who are so used to the iconic menu that has been there for more than 15 years.
