Windows 8 Consumer Preview Build Launching February 29th

Microsoft announced today that the Consumer Preview version of Windows 8 will be made available on February 29th. Additionally, the company plans on holding an event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on the 29th to launch the preview. It’s interesting that Microsoft has chosen MWC as the venue for releasing this build, as MWC is primarily a mobile conference. This hints that Microsoft plans to do more with Windows 8 than create a desktop environment.

Currently there is no information on whether or not Microsoft plans to discuss the synergy between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, but given the setting it seems as though this could be the direction the company is taking.

We’ll keep you updated on any future plans or announcements before the 29th, but we do know that the Consumer Preview version will feature a handful of apps and games pre-installed, as well as providing access to the Windows App Store for other games and applications to be downloaded.
