Microsoft Lowers Hardware Requirements; Opens Market to 23 Additional Countries

It’s no secret that the Tango update for Windows Phones seeks to allow devices with much lower hardware specs into the fold. The Lumia 610 confirmed this, as Nokia announced the phone with only 256MB RAM. Of course, both Microsoft and Nokia promise that fragmentation will be kept at a minimum, but if certain apps are incompatible with these low-range devices, that could prove to be much harder than anticipated.

In addition to the rollout of new under-powered hardware, Microsoft has announced the Marketplace will be rolling out to 23 new countries, including China, UAE, and many countries in Eastern Europe. This is likely to coincide with the budget phone releases, which will target these markets.
