MasterCard Signs Off on the Lumia 610 as PayPass Ready

The Nokia Lumia 610 is not likely a device that will see release in the United States any time soon, as it’s designed to be the flagship device of the “Tango” update, which brought low-end smartphones into the Windows Phone fold. The first Windows Phone NFC device has been certified by MasterCard to be PayPass ready, which means it can be used at thousands of PayPass kiosks around the globe. Nokia had this to say:

“Nokia is honored that the Nokia Lumia 610 NFC will be one the world’s first smartphones to include MasterCard’s PayPass Ready brand mark,” said Andrea Bacioccola, NFC Lead Program Manager, Nokia. “This sends a clear message to operators, banks and other service providers that Nokia is able to quickly enable their payment services on this smartphone.”
