Microsoft Surface has an Apple MagSafe-like connector for power and data

Head over to the Microsoft Surface Forums to talk about the brand new Windows Tablets!

Ever since the Microsoft Surface event last night more details have been trickling in about the tablet. Microsoft left a lot unanswered, but we’re slowly getting a better idea of what Surface has to offer. One of the things that was shortly talked about last night, but missed by many, is the magnetic port for the power/data cable.

Mac fans will recognize this as a MagSafe clone. Macs have been shipping with connectors like this for quite some time. It helps avoid injury or damage when accidentally yanking on a power cord or laptop still attached to the wall.  The cool thing about Microsoft’s connector is it not only charges, but can also transfer data. Apple’s MagSafe doesn’t need to do that because it’s used for laptops, but tablets need to transfer data occasionally.

Innovations like this prove that Microsoft is still a beast to be reckoned with. We can’t wait to see what else they have in store for Surface.
