gMaps Pro Receives Update, StreetView Massively Improved

If you’re a convert from Android and you feel a bit dirty relying on the Bing maps that are built into Windows Phone, you’ll be happy to know that one of the best Google Maps applications on the marketplace has receivevd a pretty substantial update. gMaps Pro offers several new features for users, including:

  • Improved and slick StreetView
  • Your places (with favorites, recent and pinned items)
  • Latitude as layer on your map
  • New localizations: Portuguese, Japanese
  • Offline Chinese offset detection
The StreetView improvement is the big one here, as the performance before the update was pretty iffy at best. Now the app loads smoothly and appears to have the developer’s own version of Project Butter going on for it. Of course there’s an ad-supported version of gMaps available in the Marketplace, but if you’re like me and you don’t care for adverts or you simply want to support the developer, the Pro version is the way to go.
