App Hub Maintenance Planned August 6th, Downtime Under 24 Hours

App Hub experience has been less than sub par for many Windows Phone developers. Even submitting our own recent WinSource app has been quite an ordeal with several hoops to jump through. Some improvements have been made when it comes to publishing times, but they have not been nearly enough to ensure the Marketplace is flowing like it should be.

Microsoft acknowledges this and improvements will be the main reason the App Hub will be inaccessible to developers on August 6th. The official Windows Phone blog notes that while the maintenance is being performed, delays in app certification and publishing will occur.

“Rest assured our teams will be working as quickly as possible to minimize the impact on you. Once the developer portal is back online, you might still encounter an occasional hiccup as we complete the back-end work over the next several weeks.”

It’s great to see Microsoft taking the initiative to work out all the bugs with app submission and certification, since Windows Phone 8 is right around the corner. We certainly want new developers interested in the platform to have the greatest experience they possibly can.
