We told you a few months ago that Microsoft was opting to make Windows Media Center a paid add-on for Windows 8 in order to reduce the general cost of the operating system for those who may not need those service. Early adopters and those who buy a PC with Windows 8 pre-installed are supposed to get Media Center for free until January 31, 2013. discovered an add-on pack in Windows 8 that appears to show the Media Center add-on being available for $12.79. This is the only official way to add DVD playback support for Windows 8, so those who use Windows machines as media centers may want to keep Windows 7 for now.
