Samsung revives the Start Menu in Windows 8 with “S Launcher”

In Windows 8 Microsoft decided to remove the classic Start Menu in favor of the new Modern UI layer. Not everyone has been a fan of this decision, and Samsung is the first company to do something about it. Samsung creatively calls it “S Launcher,” their take on the Start Menu.

S Launcher is a floating desktop widget that can do many of the things the old Start Menu could do. It provides access to shortcuts and folders, and can even be used to search just by typing. It looks a lot like the old Start Menu, which will likely bring comments about Samsung copying again. It’s not a bad idea to help new users adjust by providing a familiar feature, but we’re not sure Microsoft will like this.
