Samsung trademarks “Ativ” name for unified Windows device branding

Chances are you’ve probably heard of a Samsung Galaxy device. “Galaxy” is the name Samsung uses for it’s Android line of smartphones and tablets. Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, etc. So far for Windows Phone and Windows devices Samsung hasn’t had much organization to the product branding, but it looks like that is about to change.

On Twitter Samsung showed off a logo for the Ativ Tab, a Windows 8 tablet. Also discovered is a logo for the Ativ S, which sounds like a high end Windows Phone 8 device. We don’t know much else about these devices other than names. It’s nice to see Samsung take the same approach that has been so successful with Android.

How do you feel about the “Ativ” name?

Focus, Focus S, Focus Flash, Focus 2. Given Focus isn’t exactly as cool of a name as Galaxy, but at least it isn’t as arbitrary as Ativ.
