New Nokia Sensor Could Take the Hump Out of Pureview

When it comes to cell phone cameras, Nokia is hands down the king. The Pureview 808 is an amazing piece of technology that is able to capture photos with stunning detail and clarity. It makes sense that Nokia wants this technology on their flagship Windows Phone Lumia series, but the hump on the 808 would detract from the beauty that is a Lumia device. Nokia has filed a patent application for new sensing technology that would allow for senors made of much smaller layers that can still capture the same quality images along with better low-light performance.

With this patent, Nokia could very well deliver a Pureview camera on the Lumia series that doesn’t feature the hump, but still offers the stunning 41MP clarity that we’ve come to expect from Pureview technology. The only downside to this is that the technology won’t be available for the launch of the Lumia 920, which is said to feature a watered down version of Pureview technology.
