Since the Lumia 920 debuted yesterday, plenty of outspoken critics and fans alike have derided Nokia’s decision not to include a microSD on its flagship phone. Nokia executive Vice President Kevin Shields has an answer for these critics, citing form over function. Apparently Nokia believes that the addition of a microSD slot would compromise the integrity of the phone.
“We started with the premise that we wanted an uncompromised physical form. To put an SD card slot in it would have defiled it. Most people aren’t using the storage in their phone, anyway.”
While the Lumia 920 does sport an attractive design, given Shield’s reasoning it does make sense. The only natural place for one of these slots on the phone is on the top or bottom and it would be hard to fit another slot considering the space is taken up. It’s a sound decision, but one many people aren’t too happy about, seeing as the Lumia 820 has a microSD slot.
