Ballmer shows off his Surface to devs, still doesn’t let anyone touch it

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is hard at work again spreading the good news about Windows 8. In a trip to Silicon Valley-based RocketSpace, Baller showed off his own personal Surface RT tablet to a room full of developers. He even pulled a rock star move and threw a Touch Cover into the crowd.

Ballmer still did not allow anyone to touch the device, but since it was his personal device we don’t think it has anything to do with the software not being ready. RocketSpace CEO Duncan Logan asked the tough question of what Surface will cost, and of course Ballmer did not reveal any secrets. He reiterated that launch is coming soon, and pricing will be available then.

The real point of the trip was to generate some developer interest in Windows 8. The Windows Store is already filling up with apps, but Ballmer knows you an  never have too much dev support. It is estimated that over 2,000 apps are already available in the Store just a month away from public release. Development should pick up in the next month, and especially after devices are on store shelves.
