This week has been a storm of rumors surrounding the Surface phone that Microsoft continues to deny. This time the rumor is that the Redmond giant is working with Huawei and Mediatek on the rumored Surface phone. That would explain why Huawei has stayed out of the initial unveiling of Windows Phones for this year and coincides with the rumors that a Surface phone would not arrive until 2013.
This does raise a few questions about the quality of the phone, since Huawei and Mediatek are both known for their low-end output in China. If the Surface phone does turn out to be a low-cost alternative, that means Microsoft will only strengthen Nokia as the high-end handset manufacturer for Windows Phone 8.
