It’s always nice seeing the Windows Phone app catalog grow, but one has to question just how many VoIP clients one ecosystem needs. Even still, we have Vopium hopping into the fray among Skype and Viber, offering up five free minutes for anyone who wants to test the app before they decide to commit to the premium version. The premium version of the app offers something called smart rates, so that you can see the cost of your call per minute before you make it. This is a nice feature for someone who will be making lots of international calls where rates may vary.
Additionally, unlike Viber, Vopium allows you to call any phone no matter if that person is a Vopium member or not. It’s definitely an interesting take on offering VoIP services for Windows Phone users, but given that Skype is Microsoft-owned and will soon be integrated into Windows Phone 8, it’s hard to see how a third party service will do better. If you’re interested in giving Vopium a go, find it here.
