Will the Huawei Ascend W1 retail for under $200? [Rumor]

We’ve seen a lot of buzz about the Huawei Ascend W1 Windows Phone 8 device, but there’s been no concrete evidence about its launch other than the fact that it’ll be available in both cyan and white. The latest rumor is that the phone will be available off-contract for a mere $200. That’s right. Off-contract pricing for the same price as a 16GB Nexus 7.

The $200 rumored price tag isn’t so shocking to me now that I’ve seen Google dole out the Nexus 7 for a ridiculously cheap price and then add on the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 10 as flagship devices. Rumors have been abound that Microsoft has been working with Huawei on its own Surface phone, so if this turns out to be the case it’s a real no brainer to make the phone easily accessible by dirt-cheap pricing. We only wish that if it turns out to be true, Microsoft had taken that approach with the Surface tablet.

  • This price would be amazing.

  • I agree! I’m holding out for those Surface phone rumors.

I think it is very possible. I mean, high end Windows Phone devices go for like $450. A $200 price point is not out of the question at all. I totally think it’s doable.
