Microsoft plans on supporting the Surface RT until April 11, 2017

Microsoft’s support plans for their software have always seemed pretty generous, with XP still being supported well beyond its life cycle. Microsoft seems to be extending this support to its Surface tablet, as it will be supported until April 11, 2017. This is four years into the product lifecycle, which is fairly ancient when you consider the release schedule of Android and iOS tablets.

For those of you who have purchased a Surface RT, you can rest easy knowing your tablet will continue to be supported for several years to come.

Patch support is great, app support is better :)

  • App support is really up to developers, though. Microsoft has built it, we’re waiting on the devs to come. :)

Wow… that’s a long time. I mean it’s sweet, but it just makes you wonder how much they plan to advance. Many times Android updates are not brought to some devices because of hardware not being able to keep up. It may be bogus at times, but other times it totally makes sense. An upgrade can mess up the experience if it’s heavy.

Surface RT is a dead tablet walking already.. I’ll be posting in the forums as to why i think this.
