Microsoft wants you to be the Next App Star for Windows Phone

Turn on the TV and you’ll be greeted by a dozen shows about becoming the “Next Something Star!” It could be a chef, model, singer, big foot hunter, you name it. Microsoft is starting a similar contest for Windows Phone developers.┬áIt’s called “Next App Star” and its main goal is to find the next big hit in the Windows Phone Store. They will be doing this in a March Madness-style elimination bracket.

If you are a Windows Phone developer it’s easy to enter the contest. You have until March 5th to submit your app. After the deadline Microsoft will judge submissions based on user ratings and app quality. Implementations of Windows Phone 8 features are a plus. They will select 64 apps to be put in a head-to-head bracket that will be voted on by the public. The voting will take several weeks as the apps get narrowed down to one grand prize winner.

So what’s first place get? The grand prize winner will have their app featured in a Windows Phone TV commercial. Other prizes for runner-ups include Lumia 920’s and free dev center subscriptions. Hit the link below for all the details.
