Speedtest.net finally comes to Windows Phone 8, doesn’t work very well

Speedtest.net is a popular tool for checking internet connection speeds. It is especially useful for people who test phones on a regular basis. Unfortunately the app has been absent from Windows Phone which has forced people to use 3rd party apps that left a lot to be desired. Speedtest.net finally has an app for Windows Phone 8, but it doesn’t work very well.

The app shows your download and upload speeds for whatever connection you are on, wifi or mobile, at least that’s the idea. In practice it seems to only work when connected to wifi. Even that only works if you’re lucky. Most of the time the app returns a networkconnection error. Obviously this makes the app pretty useless. We love the design of the app, but they really need to fix these glaring flaws before it can become a helpful tool.

Works fine here in the UK on both wifi and mobile data (O2 network).
Perhaps it is the server you are trying to use, because some of them aren’t as good as others.

Worked for me too (UK/Orange). Valid point of changing the servers, I get quite different results from different locations (i.e. Sittingbourne v’s Canterbury).

Milton Keynes and Preston generally give the best results on O2 and Tmobile and Morecambe can be quite impressive with three.
Many of them are utterly garbage though.

It must be a US thing then, because almost everyone over here is having problems.

You guys should just give it some time. The app really sucked when it was first released for Android. It’s just not what they do, so you gotta give them some time to get things right.

It could be an APN issue. The Android version doesn’t work on the Nexus 4 with AT&T unless you set up a different APN. It’s strange.
