Huawei launches an Ascend W1 variant for Africa

The Huawei Ascend W1 was debuted last month at CES, and while we won’t see it here in the US it is expected to be big on other continents. One of thoseĀ continentsĀ is Africa. Today Huawei announced a custom version of the W1 specifically for Africa called the Huawei 4Afrika. It will be launched in Angola, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa. It will be available in blue, red, white, and black.

The 4Afrika is a part of Microsoft’s strategy to get into the region. To make the phone even more custom for Africa it will come pre-loaded with apps written by Africans for Africa. They believe having local content will entice people to switch from their current phones. The 4Afrika will share the specs of the W1. it has a 4″ display, 1.2GHz processor, and 5MP camera. This looks like an excellent choice for people in Africa, and we love to see Microsoft get Windows Phone in more countries. It is crucial for competition.

“…and one of those countries is Africa.” Mr Author Sir, without any intended pun, Africa is not a country

Nice one! It’s good to see companies going beyond the “main countries”.
