BBC confirms iPlayer will finally come to Windows Phone

We’ve been tracking the BBC iPlayer app for a while now. Way back in May it was “confirmed” to be right around the corner. Unfortunately the BBC had quite a different story. This is what they had to say to Pocket-Lint:

“We are always looking at new and existing platforms to bring BBC iPlayer to, but have no plans to launch a BBC iPlayer native app in Windows Phone Marketplace in the immediate future.”

Today they are singing a song to a different tune. The BBC has announced that it will be bringing its popular iPlayer app to Windows Phone. They have signed a deal with Microsoft which will allow the functionality to arrive in the near future. The BBC will be tweaking its mobile site to work on Windows Phones, and may just wrap it into an app. They did say that it will have a live tile. Who’s excited?
