T-Mobile confirms Nokia Lumia 810 will not support LTE

Several weeks ago we reported that the Nokia Lumia 810 for T-Mobile would be recivineg a firmware upgrade to allow LTE. That got a lot of people excited, but it looks like there may be nothing to celebrate. Randy Emerson, Senior Director of product marketing at T-Mobile wrote in an email response that the 820 will not be upgradeable to LTE. He confirms that the device chipset can support LTE in some use cases, but unfortunately not with the Lumia 810.

“I’m following up as per my note last night.  Unfortunately, the Nokia Lumia 810 is not upgradable to LTE.  While it is true that it has a chipset that is LTE-capable in certain circumstances, the variant that was used in this device can’t be enabled for LTE.”

This is too bad, but really shouldn’t be all that surprising. Devices generally don’t get updated like this, and you certainly shouldn’t expect it when buying a device. Lumia 810 users didn’t expect to have LTE when they bought the phone, so not having it won’t be much of a disappointment. T-Mobile’s LTE network won’t even be worth while for until a couple years from now. Just enjoy that HSPA, 810 users.

At this point, any phone without LTE is a no-go for me.
