Huawei Ascend W2 specs leak, competes with other high-end Windows Phones

The Ascend W1 was an attractive little phone from Huawei, but it didn’t really tip the scales in terms of raw power and high-end specs. That’s understandable considering the W1 was Huawei’s first step into the Windows Phone world.¬†Yesterday some specs leaked for Huawei’s next Windows Phone device, and it looks like this time they aren’t holding anything back.

The Ascend W2 is the supposed sequel to the W1. There were reports that we could see it at MWC this year, but it never showed up. According to the leak the W2 is a much more high-end device than the W1. It will have a 4.3-inch 720p display, 8MP camera, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2,000mAh battery, and 1GB of RAM. These specs are in line with most of the high-end Windows Phone 8 devices on the market right now. The release date given along with the specs is from November of last year. Obviously that time is long gone, so what gives with this device?

It’s possible that Huawei decided to scrap this device and stick with the lower-end Ascend W1. Perhaps they wanted to see how the W1 would sell before they put more resources in a high-end phone. We will keep an eye on W2 and report any information we learn.
