Monster Island for Windows 8/RT is an explosive good time [Video]

Have you ever thought “I like Angry Birds, but I wish it had more monsters and explosions”? Of course you have, who hasn’t!? Monster Island is the answer to those wishes. It’s a unique spin on the familiar Angry Birds-style of game that we’ve been seeing so much of lately. It also happens to be a lot of fun.

Like Angry Birds the main action in Monster Island is flinging things, in this case mini-monster¬†bombs. Instead of pigs the enemies are blue monsters. Yes, that means your monster is throwing monsters at monsters. It’s not called Monster Island for nothing.

These mini-monsters that your character throws have different abilities, but they all explode. Some explode on contact, others have delayed explosions, some stick, etc. Before each level you can see how many mini-monsters you have to throw. After each level you get a star rating and a certain amount of points depending on how well you did. Since this is an Xbox Live title you can also unlock achievements.

Monster Island also lets you customize your character. There are twelve different monsters to choose from that can be bought with coins earned in the gameplay. You can also use coins (and sometimes real money) to buy things that will make the game easier.

Monster Island is currently free in the Windows Store. I really enjoyed playing Monster Island, and I’m usually not that interested in the Angry Bird-style of games. it has all the good traits from Angry Birds, plus a lot of creative twists that make it feel like its own game. Check out our video to see it in action, and head to the Windows Store to try it yourself.
