Microsoft confirms they are working on Windows devices with smaller screens

There has been a lot of speculation about Microsoft and 7-inch tablets. Surface was launched as a 10-inch device during a time when 7-8-inch devices were becoming very popular. Just last week week there was a report that Microsoft is indeed working on a smaller tablet. Today we have news right from Microsoft’s mouth.

Microsoft CFO Peter Klein revealed today on an earnings call that Microsoft is working close with their partners to produce “a new suite of small touch devices powered by Windows.” He goes on to say that the devices will be priced competitively and should be available in the coming months.

Changes in the next version of Windows leaked a while ago that suggested they were doing things to help OEMs create smaller devices. Minimum screen resolution will be knocked down to 1024×768, and the requirement for Snapping apps will be lowered too. We’re very anxious to see Windows on some smaller devices. Surface is nice, but sometimes you want something more compact.
