Stephen Elop teases Lumia 928, says new device coming “later this quarter”

The Lumia 928 for Verizon is picking up steam. In the last few weeks we’ve seen renders, leaked parts, and we know almost everything about it. The only thing remaining is a launch date. We’ve been expecting it to be announced soon, and it looks like Nokia’s Stephen Elop is confirming that.

During Nokia’s earnings call today Elop said a new Lumia device is coming later this quarter that is anticipated to have “hero status with a leading US carrier.” Sounds like the Lumia 928 to us. He also said that the device will mark the beginning of a new season of products. Elop is most likely talking about rumored devices called Catwalk and EOS.

Elop also announced some earning numbers this morning. Last quarter they sold 5.6 million Lumia devices. That’s up from 4.4 million in Q4, and just 2 million a year ago. Two thirds of all Lumias sold in Q1 were running Windows Phone 8. Since they signed on with Microsoft Nokia has sold 19.9 million Lumia devices. We’re glad to see Nokia continue to improve, and the Lumia 928 should help even more.
