Huawei Ascend W1 coming to the U.S. in Walmart stores this month

Back in January at CES we got our hands on the Huawei Ascend W1 and we were thoroughly impressed with the device. It has excellent build quality, and is priced very competitively for the mid-range market, plus is runs Windows Phone 8 “Portico.” Unfortunately it was destined for life overseas, that is until now.

Microsoft has just announced that the Ascend W1 (to be known as the Huawei W1 in the US) will be coming to Walmart this month. To give you a little refresher the W1 has a 4-inch display, a dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, 5MP camera with 720p video, and 2GB of storage. Pricing has not been announced, but it will use a no-contract prepaid plan and be priced “competitively.”

The specs are very respectable for a mid-range device, and the pricing should make this a very intriguing option for many people. Check out our hands-on with the Huawei W1 from CES below. Are you going to pick one of these up from Walmart?

I remember seeing that little guy at CES. Not a bad phone, I just feel like they have to price it very low in order for it to really compete. High-end Windows Phone devices are already affordable as they are.
