Microsoft details next Windows Phone 8 update coming this summer

It’s been a busy day for Windows Phone news, and it’s not slowing down yet. Microsoft has detailed what we can expect to see in the next Windows Phone 8 update, known internally as GDR2. The update is scheduled for this summer, and it includes some nice new features.

The GDR2 update will be similar to the last update in that it will add a few small features, but nice features nonetheless. First up is the FM Radio for devices with FM radios built-in. Nokia announced this morning that Lumia devices would be getting this, and so will other Windows Phone 8 devices.

The next feature is Data Sense. Currently this is only available on Verizon phones, but Microsoft says the next update will make it available to more carriers. Hopefully that means T-Mobile and AT&T. Last but not least is finally the end to the Google Sync Saga. Microsoft hasĀ implementedĀ the Card DAV and Cal DAV standards for Google account users.

These are some very nice little features, and they should be arriving some time this summer. GDR2 is already available on the Lumia 925. Once we get our hands-on one of those we will learn more about this update.
