Microsoft launches Windows 8.1 preview website, announces new features

In the last couple weeks Microsoft has started opening up about the next version of Windows 8. Mainly they have been focusing on features that consumers will enjoy, but today they have launched a new landing page for business and enterprise users. The Windows 8.1 preview page shows off some of the important features that might not interest the average consumer.

The web page talks about Windows tablets being the best for businesses. It mentions things like business apps, mobility, bring your own device, and security, but doesn’t go into a lot of detail. A link is provided at the bottom with more information. It’s a nice little page to show business and enterprise users that Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about them. The free Windows 8.1 preview is scheduled for June 26th.

Microsoft also talked about some new features in Windows 8.1 that pertain to the desktop. Something that a lot of people have complained about is the jarring experience of being constantly switched between desktop and metro. Microsoft says in 8.1 you will “leave the desktop only when you want to.” Also there will┬ábe enhanced support for multi-monitor set-ups. That last one will make the Angry Windows Nerd happy.

Are you excited by the direction Microsoft is taking with Windows 8.1? It seems like they have really taken a lot of what people wanted into consideration. June 26th can’t come soon enough.

Too bad, from the rumors, that MS has still botched the Start button functionality.

  • Why do you think it’s botched? I think it’s a good compromise.
