Smart devices are all the rage these days. Whether it’s a smart watch or a fitness tracker, one thing a lot of devices rely on is Bluetooth. Unfortunately many of those devices require Bluetooth 4.0, which is not supported in Windows Phone 8. This has left a lot of Windows Phone users on the outside looking in on smart devices.
Bluetooth 4.0 may not be supported in the OS, but phones like the Lumia 920 and 820 have the hardware built-in. All that’s needed is something to enable it in the software. According to a Bluetooth exec, Microsoft has some news to share about Bluetooth smart ready at BUILD.
“As “OS Season” continues, I’m looking forward to sharing more Bluetooth Smart Ready innovation from Microsoft Build later this month.”
Windows 8 already has high-end support for Bluetooth, which leads us to believe this will be Windows Phone related. If they do announce support for Bluetooth 4.0 in Windows Phone 8 that would allow users to use devices such as Pebble or Fitbit Flex. We would love to see that.
