Microsoft working on improved Surface RT with Qualcomm processor and LTE

Surface RT hasn’t been selling as well as Microsoft had hoped, but that’s not stopping them from continuing to work on it. Bloomberg is reporting that Microsoft is planning to ditch Nvidia, currently supplying Tegra 3 processors, for Qualcomm. The change will likely start later this year.

Other reports claim that the next Surface RT is already in testing, and running Windows RT 8.1. The devices are running Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors, which include integrated LTE connectivity. This could allow Microsoft to finally open up Surface to mobile broadband. Windows RT 8.1 is said to have the same new features as Windows 8.1. Surface RT has potential to be great if Microsoft can somehow squeeze more functionality out of it (like LTE), and get the price down.
