Alleged Windows Phone 8.1 video leaks, shows Android-like pull down notification shade [Video]

Rumors about Windows Phone 8.1 have been popping up a lot lately. Before we get too deep let’s clarify one thing that may be confusing. Windows Phone 8.1 is not the same as GDR2. The GDR2 update is adding a few small things, but Windows Phone 8.1, a.k.a. Blue, will be a major update. GDR2 is coming this year, but 8.1 is slated for 2014.

One of the major things that 8.1 will allegedly bring is a notification center. The very blurry and sketchy looking video above was posted on YouTube by a brand new user. The video claims to be showing Windows Phone 81. running on a Lumia 920. First we can see the user tap a tile that opens up four “quick toggles” for what appears to be Bluetooth, Airplane mode, WiFi, and cellular. Next it gets really interesting.

The user swipes from the top of the screen to open up the notification center, just like in Android (and now iOS). From there we can see notifications displayed the same way we saw in this previous leak. Other things to note is the list appears to be scrollable, it also displays the ring/vibrate/silent option, and the time and cell strength move to the bottom when the shade is open.

We have to admit the video looks very authentic. The phone responds to his touches very quickly and accurately, unlike it would if the phone was running a video. We’re hesitant to believe that Microsoft would just rip the notification center from Android and iOS. In the past they’ve chosen to do things their own way. Everyone seems to want the notification center to be accessible with a swipe to the left of the Start screen. The only problem with that is you need to be at Start to access the notifications.

What do you think about this video? Real or fake? If it is real is this something you would want, or do you prefer a more original approach?
