The Start screen got a big face-lift in 2012 with Windows Phone 8. Microsoft added new tile sizes that really opened up the possibilities for customization. But ever since WP8 was released we haven’t heard any more about the Start screen. At the Worldwide Partner Conference today Microsoft teased some future plans for the Start screen in Windows Phone.
Microsoft COO Kevin Turner showed the above slide during the conference. The slide contains a bunch of Microsoft products and their future plans. Included on the slide is Windows Phone, which gets mentioned five times. One of those times is “Start Screen Innovation.” This is an extremely general statement, and we haven’t the slightest idea what it could mean. One possibility is to see the same Start screen experience on both Windows 8 and WP8.
The other four mentions of Windows Phone include “Low Cost, Killer Hardware, Skype Experience, and Common App Platform With Windows.” Everything sounds good. These plans are slated for 2014, so we have a while to wait before we see any of them become reality. What would you like to see Microsoft change in the Start screen?
