Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update rolling out now to unlocked devices

We’ve been waiting patiently for GDR2 to arrive, and it seems it may be here. users are reporting that the unlocked HTC 8X and Samsung ATIV S have been receiving Windows Phone GDR2. This is the latest update from Microsoft for Windows Phone 8. There are a number of important new features in the update.

The GDR2 update will be similar to the last update in that it will add a few small features, but nice features nonetheless. First up is the FM Radio for devices with FM radios built-in. Nokia announced this morning that Lumia devices would be getting this, and so will other Windows Phone 8 devices.

The next feature is Data Sense. Currently this is only available on Verizon phones, but Microsoft says the next update will make it available to more carriers. Hopefully that means T-Mobile and AT&T. Last but not least is finally the end to the Google Sync Saga. Microsoft has implemented the Card DAV and Cal DAV standards for Google account users.

Is your unlocked device receiving this update yet?

925 here and I’m pleasantly surprised. Formerly a nexus 4 user and trying windows phone 8 for the first time. My only gripe is the marketplace…other than that, A+.

I picked up the GDR2 update over the weekend… Nothing too exciting for HTC 8X owners. It appears that AT&T still isn’t on the Data Sense bandwagon yet either.
