Windows Phone 101

Are you a new user? Are you trying to figure out how to use your fancy new Windows Phone? You’re in luck, because this new series or articles is just for you! Not all of us are seasoned veterans when it comes to Windows Phone. At one time we were all beginners just looking for answers. Windows Phone 101 aims to provide answers to the simplest questions.

One thing that modern smartphones have not conquered is battery life. It seems like every time you buy a new phone you have to choose between something thin and something with a battery that will actually last through the day. Luckily Microsoft has built-in an awesome tool that can help you save tons of battery life with the flick of a switch.

Battery Saver is a built-in setting that disables many of the services that gobble up battery life. Some of the services include automatically receiving emails and calendar updates, real-time information on live tiles, and apps running in the background. While in Battery Saver mode you will still receive phone calls and text messages.

Battery Saver mode will automatically turn on when your battery is critically low, but you can turn it on manually whenever you want.

  1. Open up Settings
  2. Scroll down and tap Battery Saver
  3. Toggle Battery Saver on, then tap Advanced
  4. Here you can choose how you want Battery Saver to run. There are three options: when battery is low, now until next charge, or always (not recommended).

Choose whichever you would like, and you are all set. Notice how the time remaining under Battery Info changes when you turn Battery Saver on. This is a handy tip for milking out every last drop of battery life. Never be without a charge again!
