Are you a new user? Are you trying to figure out how to use your fancy new Windows Phone? Not all of us are seasoned veterans when it comes to Windows Phone. At one time we were all beginners just looking for answers. Windows Phone 101 aims to provide answers to the simplest questions.

One of the founding features of Windows Phone was “hubs.” Microsoft saw that smartphone users were doing a lot of going in and out of apps. Check Facebook in the Facebook app, then check Twitter in he Twitter app. With Hubs in Windows Phone Microsoft has put common apps in one place.

In Windows Phone 8 they took this to the next level by making the camera a hub for all apps that can take photos or use the viewfinder. These apps are called “lenses.” By having them accessible in the camera app you can quickly launch them from wherever you are without having to search through lists of apps.

  1. Launch the Camera app.
  2. Tap the (⇆) icon to view the lens apps.
  3. Tap an app icon to take a photo with that app.
