Nokia taking on Google Street View with new roaming HERE vehichles

When it comes to what has become known as “Street View” there is no one better than Google. One of the best features of Google Maps is the ability to see places as they appear on the road. This feature can be immensely helpful so you know what to look for when you arrive at a destination.┬áNokia’s HERE Maps are missing this feature, but not for long.

Nokia is now equipped with vehicles for recording massive amounts of street level data, and it’s all powered by Windows of course. Each vehicle has a Lumia 920, Surface Pro, and a 3D camera. The camera consists of 4 individual cameras that capture a 68MP 360 degree view. There is also a LIDAR scanner for scanning 3D points. All of this data will be used to beef up HERE Maps.

Some of this data has already started showing up in major cities on We hope that soon Nokia will bring the data to Windows Phone as well. I really miss having Street View data, and I’m sure many other people do too. Pedal to the metal, Nokia.
