Best Windows Phone apps and games from the month of August


As summer winds down another month is in the books. While you were busy at the beach trying to use up every last drop of summer a bunch of new apps were released. With each passing month the Windows Phone Store gets more and more quality apps. Below is our list (in alphabetical order) of the best apps to be released in August. Be sure to check out our previous months when you’re done.


The app formerly known as 6tagram is finally available for everyone to download. With this app you can upload photos and videos to Instagram, add filters, and much more. It’s an exceptional app from a great developer.

Bing Finance

If you need to keep track of your stocks Bing Finance might be the best app available. In the app you can see the latest DOW and NASDAQ numbers, along with graphs.

Bing News

The news app covers all the top headlines from around the world. The design uses a lot of big photos to make it feel like a magazine. There is a live tile with breaking news alerts, but unfortunately no lockscreen support.

Bing Sports

Bing Sports brings you the latest news and scores from the world of sports. The scoreboard shows scores from the current season (MLB right now), and there is news to cover all sports.

Bing Weather

Bing Weather features a live tile with the temperature. high/low, and current conditions. Inside the app you’ll see many features, including “feels like” temperature, humidity, wind, and of course views for hourly, daily, and radar maps.

Bright Weather

We have no shortage of beautiful weather apps, and Bright Weather is yet another. This app is visually stunning, and it provides useful weather information. It’s a very clean app, with a pretty live tile to boot.

Copy, one of the newest cloud storage options to enter the scene, has just released an official Windows Phone 8 app. They already have apps for Android and iOS, so we are glad to be included

ESPN Fantasy Football

If you play Fantasy Football there are only a handful of apps on Windows Phone to help you keep track of your team. One of the better apps was unfortunately reserved for Nokia users, until this month when ESPN Fantasy Football became available for all.

Fruit Ninja

Fruit Ninja has been around for a while on Windows Phone 7, but this month it finally made its Windows Phone 8 debut. In this classic game you swipe to cut flying fruit with your fingers. It’s super addictive fun.

MLB At Bat

Halfway through the season the MLB decided to update their app for 2013. Better late than never we suppose, especially with October coming up quickly.

NFL Mobile

NFL Mobile

The NFL Mobile app has been around for a while as a Verizon exclusive, but this month it was completely redesigned, and is now available for everyone to download. Just in time for kickoff!

OnStar RemoteLink

OnStar, the vehicle assistance company, has finally released a Windows Phone app for their RemoteLink service. The RemoteLink app allows OnStar users to lock, unlock, honk the horn, flash the lights, and even start their vehicle all remotely via the app.

Your favorite artists in one place on your Windows Phone. Track and discover your favorite artists while listening to their music. No need to browse the web.

Temple Run: Oz

Temple Run Oz

It took a long time for Windows Phone users to get their first Temple Run game, but now we have three to choose from. The latest is another collaboration with Disney for the movie Oz The Great and Powerful.

Wells Fargo


If you’re unfamiliar with Wells Fargo it is another banking app, like Bank of America and Chase Mobile. As the fourth largest bank in the US it’s great to finally have Wells Fargo on board for all of their Windows Phone customers.


wpnest is an open-source, third-party app to control your Nest Learning Thermostat. Currently, wpnest can control a single thermostat, and supports most features you would want to control.
