Microsoft Surface Pro 2 officially announced, Haswell processor in tow

surface pro 2

Microsoft has just announced Surface 2, the successor to the original Surface tablets that were revealed over a year ago. Surface RT and Pro have not sold very well, but Microsoft thinks they can make them even more appealing with some new updates. Microsoft has added quite a few new features, so let’s take a look at what makes this model different.

The device itself looks almost identical to the original model, but it’s what’s inside that counts. It has the same 10.6-inch HD display, but with 46% more color accuracy. The speakers now have Dolby built-in to boost sound quality. The kickstand can now adjusted to many angles, which makes it easier to use on your lap.

Surface 2 is faster than 95% of devices on the market. They have improved graphic performance by 50% and overall performance by 20%. This has been done with a new Haswell processor. The Haswell not only gives Surface 2 better performance, but also 75% (!!!) better battery life. Surface Pro 2 will launch with Windows 8.1.

Starting at $899, Surface Pro 2 will be offered in 64GB and 128GB configurations with 4 GB of RAM and 256GB and 512GB configurations with 8 GB of RAM. Pre-orders begin tomorrow, and devices will ship on October 22nd.

Just wait 9mo and the prices will be slashed. Unfortunately MS screwed the pooch on pricing and these tablets will likely never start below $899 w/ current specs.
