Nokia charges a Lumia 925 with a bolt of lightning [Video]

BTTF lightning

In Back to the Future Doc devises a plan to direct a bolt of lightning into the Flux Capacitor to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity needed for time travel. Lighting is a very powerful source of electricity, “unfortunately, you never know when or where it’s ever gonna strike.” What if we could harness that energy for charging phones?

Marty knew when lightning would strike, but Nokia doesn’t have that luxury. Instead they partnered with the University of Southampton to create their own. Hooked up to the device is a Nokia Lumia 925. In the video we can see the lightning arching over the Lumia 925 and the device it is connected to converts the energy into usable electricity. The result is charging the handset in a matter of seconds.

Check out the awesome video below. Does this have any real world value? Not really, but it’s pretty dang cool to see. Don’t try this at home.
