Nokia updates Glance to allow customizing with background photos

glance background

If you have a high-end Lumia phone you are familiar with a feature called “Glance.” Glance displays the time (and some simple notifications) on the screen while the phone is idle. The screen is technically always on at very low power level in order for double-tap-to-wake to work, so Glance just uses that and displays information. Nokia has released a new app to make Glance even cooler.

Nokia Glance Background (Beta) is a new app that allows users to add a photo to their Glance screen. The app is pretty simple. First make sure you have Glance enabled. Then open Glance Background and select a photo. You can adjust the coloring and contrast to make it look nice. Since Glance is ultra-low power the photo won’t look completely awesome. But that’s good, because otherwise Glance would eat up battery.

Glance screen and Glance Background are compatible with the Nokia Lumia 1020, 928, 925, 920, 820, 720, and 620 running the latest Amber update. Download below.

I just tried the Beta App. So far it works great. The best part is that I can add my own pictures. One thing I have noticed is that you can set the picture at a particular zoom level. I did the same with a picture of Arc De Trimphe, Paris. It looks great. One thing I didn’t like is the size, It doesn’t cover the whole screen. Maybe that’s not the reason glance was made. I guess pictures taken in portrait mode with minimum background will look nice on the Glance Scree. Its still in beta so future updates and full version is expected.
